We are currently engaged on a number of UK and international programmes to deliver complex Military Vehicle Projects. The business is expecting new contracts and therefore looking for a number of individuals to join the team and become key contributors to this successful and growing business.

Purpose of Position
The company requires an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to be part of the team responsible for delivery of C4I (Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence)/BMS (Battle Management Systems) and Electronic Architecture (EA; computers, displays, networks, servers, etc.) into future vehicles. The successful candidate will be a competent and rounded Systems Engineer with experience of delivering complex systems coupled with an understanding, or demonstrable ability, to apply their expertise to the land vehicle domain.

The applicant will have experience of Systems Engineering development within a team environment, and have held a position where they are responsible for an element of the design. The candidate will understand system requirements and how to develop a solution; then validate that the design meets the requirements through, analysis, modelling and test. They will have an appreciation of system behaviours, data handling, weight, power, safety, security, operating environment, EME, Human Factors, reliability, maintainability and legislation. The role involves working with a range of Subject Matter Experts and suppliers to ensure delivery of a compliant, functional and balanced solution.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the New Business Lead Engineering and working with System Engineers within the System Architecture and Electronic Architecture System Delivery teams, the principal duties are:

  • Provision of strong Systems Engineering input
    • Requirements Management
      • System and Sub-System compliance
      • Change Management - causes for changes in System, Schedule & Costs; finding causes & developing balanced solutions
      • Baseline management
    • Engineering design development
      • Trade Studies
    • Interface management
    • System Behaviour
      • Use Cases, sequence diagrams, constraints etc. using SysML
    • Validation of Subsystem design against requirements
  • Reporting
    • Delivery of technical reports
    • Collection and analysis of system metrics
    • Schedule monitoring and reporting
    • System Risk and Opportunity reporting

Experience Required
Essential

  • Applied knowledge & understanding of complex projects
  • Substantial system design and development of complex hardware and software systems
  • Application of formal System Engineering analysis processes
  • Expertise in use of Model Based Systems Engineering tools (e.g. IBM Rational Rhapsody) and SysML design notation.
  • Expertise in use of Requirement Management tools (e.g. IBM Rational DOORS)
  • Proven experience in working collaboratively across multiple product development and specialist domain teams
Highly Desirable
  • Expertise in of the Land Environment or Armoured Fighting Vehicle domain
  • Experience of design sign-off to a customer
  • Engineering or Science Degree or similar
  • Expertise of design and certification of safety systems
  • Knowledge of Defence Standards (e.g. 23-09 GVA, 61-5 Power, 00-35 Environmental, 00-251 Human Factors, 00-82 Video, etc. or equivalents)
